Centery Farm is an AA inspected 4 Star rated restored Victorian farmhouse set in a small coombe in rolling countryside and offers four rooms to bed and breakfast guests, 1 x king-size, 1 x double, 1 x twin and 1 x single. We aim to cater for and welcome all guests irrespective of creed, colour or orientation and meet their dietary needs wherever possible. The following statement is a summary of our provisions and facilities which you should carefully read to assess our suitability to your needs.
Centery Farm is located off the Barnstaple to Ilfracombe road (B3230) and accessed via Centery Lane which is a feeder lane to the B3230. We share the post code with other properties in the locality and suggest that you only use satellite navigation to find us once you have reached Barnstaple as most systems will divert you off the A361 at Aller Cross just outside South Molton via Blackmoor Gate when travelling into the region from the motorway network. Should you chose to travel to us via Blackmoor Gate the system will advise you that ‘You have reached your destination’ at Hillcrest Farm, at this point continue down the lane / hill towards the B3230 and Centery Farm will be found on the right-hand side. Centery Farm is located in countryside and the nearest shop is over 3 miles away. Ilfracombe 5 miles, Barnstaple, 7 miles and Woolacombe beach 6 miles. Therefore we recommend that you travel to us by car / motorcycle. However Centery Farm is on a public bus route and access can be gained via the public transport network.
The local train station is Barnstaple, accessed via the national network from Exeter. Barnstaple station is approximately 10 miles from Bittadon. There is a bus service immediately outside the station exit to the town centre. There are two services from Barnstaple to Ilfracombe; one departs from the bus station operated by ‘First’. This service is split between travelling via Braunton, or Muddiford & Milltown. You will require the Muddiford & Milltown service which travels through Bittadon and past Centery Farm. The second service (301) operated by ‘Filers’ and departs from the bus stop outside the ‘Queens Theatre’ also travels via Muddiford and Milltown en-route to Ilfracombe. In both cases the drivers will stop directly outside Centery Farm if requested. Taxi Services are always available in the locality either from Barnstaple or Ilfracombe.

Arrival, Reception & Car Parking:
The farmhouse stands in its own grounds and is fronted with a large car parking area. The access driveway from Centery Lane is approximately 30m long opening into the car park area. This area is covered with ‘Scalpins’ a type of gravel which in turn leads to a paved patio and unloading area directly outside of the front door. The area is level and there is a small 4cm lip into the reception lobby with fixed seating and a brick floor with ‘Coconut Matting’ sunk into wells. This area leads into the guest lounge and staircase leading to the first floor landing. All public areas enjoy close fitted carpets. All access doorways are over 80cm wide. We are happy to assist with guest luggage on arrival and departure. Due to the size of the car park there are no designated parking bays. Surf boards, bicycles etc. can be garaged in one of our secure barns if you so wish.
Internal Public Areas, Halls, Stairs etc.
Leading on from the entrance lobby there is the guest lounge. Here you will find comfy lounge furniture with a large screen TV, CD player and radio for your use. There is also a ‘Wood-burning’ stove which is used during the winter months and we ask that you do not re-fuel this appliance as contact with any of the hot surfaces will cause burning to the skin.
Leading off from the lounge is the first floor access stairs. Each stair is 75cm wide with a rise of 18cm, there are 14 steps in total with a dog-leg at stairs 6 to 11. The initial landing has access to Poppy and Bramble rooms and also accommodates two easy chairs and a writing desk with internet WiFi access. This landing area returns back into a corridor (minimum width 85cm) from which Foxglove and Fern rooms are accessed together with Brambles private bathroom. The areas are well lit and have emergency lighting and hard wired smoke detectors throughout. Internet access is available via a WiFi link / transmitter located on the landing, should you require a ‘hard wired’ connection please ask for our circuit router which will operate in your room. Please note that there is no access code required to gain access to the WiFi connection, you will be looking for ‘Centery Farm’ on your screen, click on this to establish your link.
The breakfast / dining room is accessed via the level patio with an entrance step of 11cm which is accessed to the left of the farmhouse on leaving the main entrance door. This external entrance is required by the Food Standards Agency as guests are not permitted to pass through the kitchen area.
Dining room tables are made of re-claimed pine and each room has its own private table. The tables are 75cm to table top and chairs are 46cm seat height.
Outdoor Public Areas:
Centery Farm has two patio areas one to the front and one to the side of the farmhouse which are both south facing. Patio furniture is provided for guest’s exclusive use.
Centery Farm is a ‘Non-Working’ farm these days; however we have around 19 acres, horses in some fields but we will inform guests on arrival which are accessible. Please note that the duck pond is ‘Unfenced ‘and has a depth of over 2.5m in the deepest part, therefore please approach with caution and no liability whatsoever can be accepted for any reason whilst out in the grounds belonging to Centery Farm as the land is undulating and can be slippery at times.
All bedroom doors are over 70cm wide and are accessed from a level carpeted landing / corridor. Each room is detailed on our website under its respective name. i.e Poppy en suite double bedded room, Foxglove en suite king-size bedded room, Fern twin en suite room and Bramble single with exclusive private bathroom and exact details as to contents and current tariff can be established from here. www.centeryfarm.co.uk additionally each room is presented with complimentary bottled water, a hot drinks tray with choice of teas, coffee and hot chocolate and flat screen satellite TV / radio, alarm clock. All bedrooms /en suites and public areas are designated as ‘Non Smoking’.
En suite / bathrooms:
Each bedroom has its own private bathroom, Poppy, Foxglove and Fern enjoy en suite facilities and Bramble has a dedicated bathroom six to eight steps away from the room door. All bathrooms enjoy full size baths, with showers over, hand basins, W.C’s, complimentary soap, shower gel, bubble bath etc. and an anti-slip mat for use whilst showering. Towels and bath mats are provided for your use but remain the property of Centery Farm. Each bathroom has a ‘Hard’ floor of either tiles or vinyl fitted covers, please be advised that these can become slippery when wet. Access into the en suite from Poppy and Foxglove bedrooms has a slight but steep slope descending into the facility. Fern and Bramble assess is level. All toilets seats and wash basins are of a standard height. I.E. Toilet seat height 43.5cm, wash basin 80cm & bath access (step in / over) 55cm. Shower over baths are protected by pivoted toughened glass screens. All baths have ‘Hand grab’ rails fitted.
Each bedroomroom and all public areas are protected by ‘hard wired’ smoke detectors / fire alarms; this is further backed up with ‘strobe’ lighting flashing along with the audible warning siren when an emergency is called. Fire Alarm ‘Call Points’ are strategically placed throughout the building and each room has details of your exit route by the main room door together with the nearest alarm call point.
Additionally, fire extinguishers are also placed throughout the building to deal with specific fire types, i.e. water, foam etc. however we ask that in the event of an emergency you make your way out of the building as quickly as possible and leave the fire fighting to the fire brigade.
Please assemble in the car park so that a roll-call can be made to establish guest numbers.
There is a public pay telephone in the entrance lobby, (999 numbers are free) this is placed at 120cm from ground level and there is a fixed seating area beneath.

Centery Farm is designated as ‘Non Smoking’ throughout.
Full ‘Public Liability’ insurance held with the National Farmers Union.
All prepared foods are locally sourced, bacon, sausages, and eggs from farms within our local area, clotted cream from our next-door neighbours dairy farm and homemade butter when available made by us. All preserves and marmalades are from local farmhouse kitchens using only the very best ingredients.
A drying room is available to dry wet suits.
Doors are locked up around 11.00pm each night. A pass code will be given for the main entrance door security pad, we normally unlock doors around 7.30am.
Continental breakfasts are served from 7.30am and cooked breakfasts between 8.30 & 9.00am. To avoid prolonged waiting at table please try to order your cooked breakfast before 10.00pm the night before as all food is cooked to order from scratch.
We will try to assist you in every way that we can, your stay at Centery Farm is personal to us as Centery Farm is our home. Should you have any additional requests we will do our best to meet them and make your stay with us exceptional.
We live at Centery Farm and will be on hand most of the time throughout the day; however we will always be here overnight in case of an emergency.
Centery Farm is permanently in development; we are constantly looking at ways to up-grade or improve our service. i.e. in 2012 we improved the loading / unloading area directly outside of the front door which is now a smooth patio area which can be backed up to by car making unloading and loading of suitcases much easier.
